Maximize glow and moisture with "Skin Flooding"!

Skin flooding is the latest skincare trend from Korea that aims to maximize the skin's moisture stores by "flooding" the skin with moisturizing ingredients. It may sound intense, but the fact is that you may already be using this technique without giving it much thought. In this blog post, we'll explain the concept, which skin types the technique is suitable for and of course, we'll recommend products based on your skin type to try Skin Flooding at home. Let's go!

What does "Skin Flooding" mean?? Skin Flooding is about using several moisturizing ingredients and products to achieve a moisturized, glowing and healthy skin! The technique includes several products such as toner, essence, serum and emollient cream. Examples of ingredients that are well suited for skin flooding are: hyaluronic acid, centella asiatica, panthenol, propolis, etc.

Why skin flooding? Skin flooding is beneficial especially now during the hottest months of summer when the skin is more prone to moisture loss. The skin flooding technique helps to boost the skin with moisture in all skin care steps from the thinnest to the thickest texture, which streamlines the application of especially serums and moisturizers. This counteracts dry, dull and dull skin and helps the skin to a moisturized and glowing one!

Is Skin Flooding good for my skin type?
Skin flooding is suitable for all skin types provided you use products adapted to it. As the technique focuses on boosting moisture levels in the skin, it is particularly suited to dehydrated and dry skin and can therefore be performed daily on drier skin.

Keep this in mind if you have oily skin: All skin types benefit from moisture, even oily skin, but skin flooding is not necessary to do daily for oily skin. It's also important to make sure that the products you use don't clog your pores or contain too much oil or feel greasy on your skin.

Keep this in mind if you have sensitive skin: For sensitive skin that wants to embrace Skin Flooding, it's important to make sure that the products are gentle on the skin, and if necessary, fragrance-free. Sensitive skin can have a hard time tolerating too much layer upon layer of product, so for those with sensitive skin, it's a matter of trial and error to see what works for you. Try the routine once a week and if your skin responds well to it, you can do it more often.

Normal, combination and mature skin can do the routine when needed or 1-3 days a week!

Our tips on products for Skin Flooding. We want to maximize moisture in several layers, using several products in the Korean routine. We work with the products in order of their consistency, from thinnest to thickest consistency.

After cleansing, the Skin Flooding routine is followed by toner, essence, serum / ampoule, emollient cream and depending on the morning or evening routine, the routine ends with either SPF or perhaps a "sleeping pack" a.k.a. night mask if you want to add that "little extra"!

Toner - Neutralizes the skin's pH value after cleansing, moisturizes and preps for the remaining products. Apply in thin layers - as many layers as you have time for!

Essence - A hybrid between toner and serum. Boosts the effect of the serum. Can be applied in several thin layers. A rule of thumb is the drier the skin the more layers, the oilier the skin the fewer layers.

Serum/Ampoule - A thick product, applied in one layer as the product has a high concentration of ingredients.

Emollient cream: Apply about the size of a pea in one layer over the face.

SPF: Pull out two to three fingers of product which is enough to apply to the face and neck.

Night mask: Apply enough product to encapsulate all the previous steps and let the mask do the work while you sleep!

Tip!

  • You do not necessarily have to have all these products, but it is excellent to instead try to apply several layers of toner if, for example, you do not have an essence or vice versa!
  • If you want to give the Skin Flooding routine an extra boost, make sure to exfoliate your skin the night before! (but never exfoliate on a tanned skin).
  • How many layers to apply of each product depends on your skin type and lifestyle. Skin flooding is not for everyone every day, but maybe a day or two a week for an extra moisture boost, before a party as a makeup base or just a naturally glowing look:)
  • Thin, thin layers of toner and essence should be gently patted / pressed into the skin. Make this step something meditative, take deep breaths and do not stress!
  • Don't apply too much product, it can cause your creams and sunscreens to start "rolling".
  • Give the products time to absorb, for the same reason as above, otherwise the products may start to "roll".
  • For an unaccustomed person, the skin after a Skin Flooding routine may feel extremely moisturized and a bit "sticky", which is the point. If you don't like the feeling, you can wipe your skin lightly with a Kleenex or some cotton pads.
